Criminal Defense: The principals have experience defending high-profile clients under investigation for, or formally accused of, alleged criminal violations of federal and state law. Clients have included a large number of individuals involved in white-collar crime, a range of fraud matters, bribery, and extortion. The attorneys have also represented clients in administrative, regulatory and licensing proceedings from criminal investigations and prosecutions and have defended clients in allegations of attempted murder, weapons crimes, drug possession and distribution, as well as other matters.Civil Litigation: The prinicipals have vast and unique experience handling complex commercial litigation matters in the federal and state courts. Matters have included civil RICO cases, complicated business and contractual disputes, civil antitrust matters, and post-war reparation litigation.

Leadership
Jennifer Mara, Esq., co-founder, is the Firm's majority shareholder and managing partner. She manages the firm's civil litigation practice and is actively involved in the defense of clients in criminal matters. Prior to founding the firm, she was an associate with Gibbons P.C. Mara has represented individuals and corporations in a wide variety of matters including civil and criminal anti-trust, visa fraud, post-war reparation litigation, civil and criminal RICO, fraud, contracts, internal investigations, and government subpoenas.
Mara clerked for then Magistrate now District Judge Claire C. Cecchi, U.S.M.J., U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and is one of the youngest trustees of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey. She is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit as well as the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Eastern District of Michigan. In 2001, she graduated magna cum laude with her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was the articles editor for the Seton Hall Law Review.Michael Baldassare, Esq., co-founder, concentrates his practice on criminal law. Prior to founding Baldassare & Mara, he was a director with Gibbons P.C. He has effectively represented clients in connection with internal and government investigations as well as trial-level proceedings of national and international significance related to a multitude of allegations. Those include mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, health care fraud, money laundering/structuring, Arms Export Control Act, tax fraud, racketeering, bribery, extortion, public corruption, visa fraud and related immigration offenses, counterfeiting, attempted murder, weapons crimes, drug possession and distribution, child pornography offenses, human trafficking, and sex trafficking.
Baldassare has held a number of leadership positions in legal organizations, currently serving as an officer of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey and chair of the sentencing subcommittee of the American Bar Association's criminal litigation committee. He is admitted to practice in the States of New Jersey and New York, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In 1999, Baldassare graduated magna cum laude with his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, where he was a member of the Seton Hall Law Review and now serves as an adjunct professor of criminal law.
