April 3: NAIOP NJ to Host 2019 CRE Intercollegiate Case Study Competition Dinner
Kearny Point is Inspiration for Student Teams from Rutgers, Monmouth, Montclair State, Villanova and Baruch, CUNY
KEARNY, N.J., Mar. 20, 2019 – Big plans for the redevelopment of Kearny Point will be unveiled at NAIOP New Jersey’s next Industry Insights Series event, but not from the project’s developers. Instead, student teams from Rutgers University, Monmouth University, Villanova University, Montclair State University and Baruch College, CUNY will present their vision for transforming the 130-acre campus at the commercial real estate development association’s annual CRE Intercollegiate Case Study Competition. The winning team will be announced during the April 3, 2019 dinner, which will be held at the Dry Dock Bistro at Kearny Point from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Kearny Point project is already underway, with site sponsor Hugo Neu’s rehabilitation of Building 78 into a successful multi-tenant loft-style flexible office space and anchor to future site development. Each student team has been challenged with developing case study proposals for making Kearny Point a model for sustainable, resilient, cutting-edge commercial and industrial redevelopment and creating spaces for innovation and job creation. The winner will receive a $5,000 prize.
NAIOP NJ CEO Michael McGuinness said, “We are committed to educating the next generation of CRE professionals about the real-world process of meeting the needs of companies and communities. The CREICS competition gives students the unique opportunity to learn from top industry professionals and municipal leaders, and it promotes the exchange of fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.”
Projects will be judged on financial analysis and feasibility, design excellence, resilience and sustainability, and client goals. The judges for this year’s competition are Steve Nislick and Michael Meyer, Hugo Neu Corporation; Brian Sabina, New Jersey Economic Development Authority; Claire Weisz, WXY Architecture + Urban Design; Brian Decillis, Cushman & Wakefield; and Michelle Richardson, Hudson County Economic Development Corporation.
