Transit App Offers Convenient Commuting and Parking Alternatives

CRANFORD, N.J., Oct. 20, 2017Boxcar, developer of a successful parking app, is continuing its popular direct bus service to and from Manhattan after launching in July to ease the rough commute for New Jersey residents dealing with the massive two-month repair project at New York’s Penn Station.

Boxcar runs its private bus service from two New Jersey towns—Chatham and Madison. To date, over 5,000 seats have been reserved on Boxcar’s luxury buses equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, water bottles and personal power outlets.

“We started it as a temporary service to help commuters, but it became more popular than we expected, so we’ve made it a permanent route,” said Joe Colangelo, who founded Boxcar along with Owen Lee.

The company has added additional direct routes from suburban New Jersey into Manhattan. Buses make several stops in Manhattan: Penn Station; 34th Street and Park Avenue; Madison Ave. and 42nd Street; and Madison Ave. and 48th Street. Colangelo believes in taking care of customers and routinely monitors the service to create a positive transit experience for users. “The bottom line is that if you aren’t happy with our level of service, then you won’t pay for your commute. That’s how seriously we care about keeping our customers happy,” he said.

“We want to create the best possible experience for our customers, which is why we are responsive to all rider requests and suggestions,” added Lee. “We’re finding that commuters are choosing our service because it’s the less hectic and most comfortable commuting option around.”

Commuters can save over 30 percent when purchasing a monthly bus pass. This cost effective option amounts to less than $10 each way. The use of Commuter Benefit accounts is another option for reducing monthly expenses when buying tickets.

Parking in the Digital Age

Boxcar was founded in 2016 as an “Airbnb for parking,” allowing commuters to use the app to locate suburban parking in more than 20 Northern New Jersey towns, including spaces near the following NJ Transit train stations: Chatham, Cranford, Fanwood, Madison, Montclair, Morristown, New Providence, Ridgewood, Roselle Park, Summit, Westfield, and Westwood. The smartphone app allows people to access parking spaces – be it in private driveways or commercial parking lots – for either a few hours or an entire day.

Boxcar is expanding its pool of parking options while allowing owners to increase their revenue stream for well-located parking. This strategy of using existing spaces more efficiently also benefits municipalities by reducing the need for additional parking lots to be built.

“Property owners can now monetize their driveways, churches can offer their lots that are unused during the day midweek, and businesses can participate during hours they don’t have employees or customers on site,” Colangelo said. For property owners, Boxcar can create revenue streams between $500 and $3,600 per spot, per year and can be in the rental pool for just a few hours or seven days per week.

Boxcar, Inc., was founded in Cranford, N.J., in 2016 for commuters in need of convenient and reliable parking who are dissatisfied with packed lots, long walks, and daily drop-offs. The company currently operates in more than 20 New Jersey towns and is adding more locations regularly. Boxcar also runs deluxe buses with wifi and power outlets from seven New Jersey commuter train stations, direct to Midtown New York City, for a relaxing commute. Boxcar is inexpensive, immediately available, and responds to each consumer’s unique needs. Download its free app to locate and reserve parking spaces at the Apple App Store or Google Play.
