Walters Staff Hosts “Murder at the Derby” Dinner for Cornerstone at Branchburg
BRANCHBURG, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2023) — In celebration of Halloween, three dozen residents at Cornerstone at Branchburg donned their best derby attire while mingling and sleuthing to solve a mystery. Staff at the new Walters age (55+) and income-restricted apartment community hosted “Murder at the Derby,” a horse-race-themed dinner party.
“This is the first time we’ve hosted an interactive theater experience, and the residents really enjoyed dressing up as the different characters and solving the mystery,” said Sidney Dawkins, leasing and activities coordinator, who organized the event along with Shannon Rabbit, social services coordinator for Walters.
In addition to gathering clues and interviewing suspects, the residents enjoyed a complimentary buffet dinner in the community room. Four gift certificates from local merchants were awarded to the best actor/actress, best dressed, best accent, and best improvisation.
The staff at Cornerstone at Branchburg is planning several additional social opportunities this year that cater to senior residents, according to Dawkins. Next month, a potluck Thanksgiving dinner will be held, as well as special holiday events in December.
Residents began moving into the premium apartment community at 1000 Cornerstone Drive earlier this year. Situated on nearly 12 acres in Somerset County, the two-building development offers 150 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes, ranging from approximately 700 to 900 square feet. Each apartment includes a full-size washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchens, window blinds in every room, and secure key fob access.
Onsite amenities include a community room with a billiards table, a fully equipped kitchen, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a computer center, outdoor areas with gas grills, and shuttle service. A staffed social services coordinator is available upon request.
