Specialty Care Initiative at Henrico, Va., Skilled Nursing Facility Aims to Meet Needs of Area Residents 

RICHMOND, Va., June 28, 2022 — Building on its commitment to provide progressive skilled nursing services, Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Richmond has enhanced its Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program with 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage. The 190-bed Henrico County skilled nursing facility, located at 1776 Cambridge Drive,provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. 

Canterbury’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program – under the direction of Sajid Naveed, MD, MRCP, the facility’s medical director – focuses on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing pulmonary symptoms and decreasing disability in acute and chronic lung patients. Its expanded respiratory therapy coverage is tailored to meet the needs of a range of diagnoses.  

Onsite, full-time respiratory therapy is provided by a dedicated team of experienced clinicians, under the supervision of Lloyd Craft, BS, CRT. Canterbury’s Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRTs) include Rachel Dickson, Alicia Jones, Kristine McCall, Ta’kia Minor, Na’liah Rahim and Nancy Woods.

“The expansion to 24/7 respiratory therapy services reflects Canterbury’s next-level skilled nursing model,” said Megan Shilling, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports Canterbury. “The facility’s talented respiratory therapy team includes clinicians with deep expertise – the group has a combined total of 112 years of direct patient care experience! – in a range of settings, including skilled nursing, home care, critical care and ICU, among others.” 

Program features of Canterbury’s pulmonary rehab offering include routine physician evaluations, physical and occupational therapy seven days per week (as ordered),and24-hour licensed nursing supervision. The facility also establishes working communication among all involved parties, including patient, family/caregiver, hospital, practitioner, skilled nursing facility, home health and outpatient services. In addition, the program features the tracking of common metrics with root cause analysis to minimize the progression of debilitating symptoms by combining exercise, breathing retraining and dietary management.
