New Therapy Gym Among Highlights at Richmond Skilled Nursing Facility

Canterbury’s newly renovated therapy gym

RICHMOND, Va. (July 12, 2023) Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Richmond is celebrating a renovation milestone, marking the Phase 1 completion of a multi-million-dollar modernization. Located at 1776 Cambridge Drive, the 190-bed Henrico County skilled nursing facility provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.

“Canterbury is being completely transformed into a modern, home-like environment for residents – one that accommodates progressive skilled nursing services,” said Megan Shilling, regional director of market development for Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “The Canterbury and Marquis teams couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Phase 1 of the modernization centered on the renovation and expansion of Canterbury’s 2,270-square-foot therapy gym, incorporating a spacious activities of daily living (ADL) suite. The gym boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including a Smart Car, and technology to support the delivery of progressive rehab services, while the ADL suite mimics a home environment – enabling patients the opportunity to regain skills before returning home. The rehab space now has its own entrance for outpatient therapy and also has a speech therapy office.

According to Shilling, renovations are well underway in Phase 2 of this ambitious project. The ongoing modernization will feature the addition of a nine-chair dialysis unit; once complete, Canterbury will offer 7-days-per-week coverage in one of the region’s largest facilities of its kind. It will be the only in-house dialysis provider to accommodate trach dialysis for complex patients. The renovation also includes the addition of an 18-bed ventilator unit to complement Canterbury’s 24/7 respiratory care services, slated to open Summer of 2023.

“It’s an exciting time at Canterbury,” said Shilling. “The physical improvements and programming enhancements together are further establishing Canterbury as a regional destination of choice for quality care.”

In addition to its clinical offerings, Canterbury is committed to serving as a healthcare resource for area residents. Together with Marquis, it has established a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest for families of patients and the larger community. The library and more information on the skilled nursing facility can be found at canterburyrehab.com.

Brick, N.J.-based Marquis Health Consulting Services provides administrative and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities and senior housing communities along the Eastern Seaboard. The organization’s operational guidance enables its client facilities to overachieve their quality and customer service goals by embracing a progressive, multi-specialty approach to healthcare.
