Top Specialist Overseeing New Specialty Care Initiative at Henrico, Va., Skilled Nursing Facility

RICHMOND, Va., April 14, 2021 – Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center has launched a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, with Kenneth Haft, MD, overseeing the initiative. The 190-bed Henrico County skilled nursing facility, located at 1776 Cambridge Drive, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.

Canterbury’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation focuses on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing pulmonary symptoms and decreasing disability in acute and chronic lung patients. Program features include onsite and full-time respiratory therapy, routine physician evaluations, physical and occupational therapy seven days per week (as ordered), and 24-hour licensed nursing supervision.

As part of its pulmonary rehab services, Canterbury establishes working communication among all involved parties, including patient, family/caregiver, hospital, practitioner, skilled nursing facility, home health and outpatient services. The program features the tracking of common metrics with root cause analysis to minimize the progression of debilitating symptoms by combining exercise, breathing retraining and dietary management. It also includes patient and caregiver education and training, as well as discharge planning and coordinated follow-up by Canterbury’s respiratory staff.

Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine, Dr. Haft serves as managing partner of Pulmonary Associates of Richmond. Previously, he was the director of the intensivist program at Henrico Doctors Hospital, where he was on the organization’s board of trustees for three years. Dr. Haft also served as the director of Pulmonary Associates of Richmond and possesses extensive research experience.

“Dr. Haft is highly regarded for his expertise in pulmonology, and Canterbury is pleased to have him leading this new specialty initiative,” said Nikki Gachot, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “Canterbury is proud to continue its legacy of aligning with leading providers and health systems to help achieve the best possible outcomes for its patients.”

Active in the medical community, he is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia.
