Specialty Initiative at Richmond, Va., SNF Designed to Meet Area Needs
RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 23, 2021 — Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center welcomes Mir Ali, DO, as its new director of physiatry programming. Located at 1776 Cambridge Drive in Richmond, the 190-bed skilled nursing facility provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.
Physiatry services – also known as physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) services – blend pain treatments and physical therapy with the goal to help patients avoid or recover from surgery, and optimize function. Physician-led by a physiatrist/physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, the “whole body” approach at Canterbury centers on designing, coordinating and overseeing customized rehabilitation therapies for patients with a range of needs while managing their medical conditions, including co-morbidities.
“Canterbury continues to establish itself as a leader in subacute rehabilitation services, responding to direct needs in the area,” said Nikki Gachot, regional director of market development of Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “This program with Dr. Ali is designed to diagnose and help patients manage acute or chronic pain. Canterbury’s talented group of physical therapy specialists and care team members is dedicated to helping residents get back to everyday activities, promoting independence and improving quality of life.”
Board certified in PM&R, Dr. Ali specializes in rehab care and the treatment of the neurologic and musculoskeletal system, and its pain-causing disorders; he is affiliated with Integrated Rehab Consultants, the largest physiatry group in the country. Dr. Ali’s special interests include the musculoskeletal system as it relates to biomechanics.
Beyond providing quality care, Canterbury is committed to serving as a healthcare resource for area residents. Together with Marquis, it has established a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest for families of patients and the larger community. The library and more information on the skilled nursing facility can be found at canterburyrehab.com.
