Skilled Nursing Facility Marks National Autism Acceptance Month with Gift to Community

POINT PLEASANT, N.J., May 17, 2022 – In honor of Autism Acceptance Month in April, Crest Pointe Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center recently donated sensory kits to the Point Pleasant Police Department for use in the borough’s patrol cars. Assembled by POAC Autism Services, a not-for-profit organization in Brick, N.J., the kits will help first responders in their interactions with autistic children and adults, and those with sensory needs.

The donation is part of the skilled nursing facility’s ongoing community support and outreach efforts. Pictured (L-R) are Detective Michelle Hill, Lieutenant David Radsniak, Crest Pointe’s Beth Ganley, Corporal Gene Capoano and Detective Nicholas Rossi.

Autism diagnoses are growing, both for children and adults. Last December, the CDC announced that one in 44 children are diagnosed with this condition. More than 7 million people in the United States are on the Autism spectrum, and it affects people from all racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups. Autism Acceptance Month celebrates and promotes acceptance of this condition, and emphasizes the need for public awareness.

“Crest Pointe has done something extremely valuable,” said Pam Montemurno, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the skilled nursing facility. She added that another nearby skilled nursing facility, Willow Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Brick, also contributed to this effort.

Crest Pointe, which is located at 1515 Hulse Road, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. Focused on its commitment to top quality care and services, Crest Pointe recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation.
