Family and Local Dignitaries Turn Out to Celebrate George S.
LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. (June 10, 2025) – A positive, happy-go-lucky spirit is one of the keys to staying young at heart for centenarian George S., a resident of Seacrest Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Little Egg Harbor. The highly decorated WWII Navy veteran celebrated his 100th birthday in May surrounded by family, friends, local dignitaries and staff of the Ocean County skilled nursing center.
“George is one of a kind; he has always been dedicated to his family and brings the sunshine everywhere he goes,” said Seacrest’s Jacqueline Phillips, director of community relations. “It was our pleasure to host his milestone birthday celebration. We are so thankful to everyone for joining us in honoring George on his special day.”
Assemblyman Gregory Myhre presented George with a plaque during the festivities and was joined by many other local dignitaries. Those included Little Egg Harbor’s Mayor Dan Maxwell, Deputy Mayor Ken Laney, Committeeman Blaise Scibetta and Tuckerton Mayor Susan Marshall, along with Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and American Legion Commander Charles “Andy” Jackson.
Born in 1925 in Pennsylvania, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1943. He proudly served his country for three years as a merchant marine and gunner during WWII. Throughout his Navy career, George served on a number of vessels, including the SS Gloria, SS Henry Watterson, SS Santa Paula, SS Thomas P. Beal and SS John A. Donald. He received numerous honors for his active duty, including the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
George and the love of his life, Terry, were married for more than 60 years. Together they have three children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. He enjoyed a 30-year career as a brewmaster, working at Rheingold, Schaefer and Stroh, as well as other breweries.
