Novo Nordisk, Local Physicians Recognized for Advocacy and Support of Diabetes Programs

HACKENSACK, N.J., April 11, 2018 – Diabetes Foundation Inc. (DFI) will hold its “Visions of Hope” gala awards dinner on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m., at The Venetian in Garfield, New Jersey. The Diabetes Foundation is the only local non-profit organization that offers tangible support to individuals living with diabetes by providing free diabetic medication, supplies and assistance throughout New Jersey. All proceeds from the major fundraising event will go to fund their ongoing programs.

Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare company with a U.S. headquarters in Plainsboro, New Jersey, will receive the Foundation’s Corporate Honoree Award, in recognition of their substantial charitable donations to the Foundation’s medication program. Honored as Physicians of the Year will be Dr. Joseph Giangola, medical director, Diabetes Team at Hackensack University Medical Center; and Dr. Steven N. Ghanny, pediatric endocrinologist at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Hackensack Meridian Health. These prominent local physicians collaborate closely with the Foundation to provide resources for individuals living with diabetes.

“The honorees we will recognize have made a positive impact in our community to help raise critical funds and support people living with diabetes,” said Ginine Cilenti, executive director of Diabetes Foundation. “Since the Foundation’s inception, it has been our mission to expand access to diabetes medication, increase social supports for families and children, and improve individual health for all community members striving to successfully manage their diabetes.”

Jim Burt, New York Giants football legend and Saddle River resident, will serve as Honorary Chairman and Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet will act as emcee. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by Wallace Roney, a renowned jazz trumpeter and Diabetes Foundation client. In addition, the evening’s festivities will include a Paddle Raise with Novo Nordisk matching donations up to 25 thousand dollars. A live and silent auction will offer items for bid such as vacations, memorabilia and jewelry items.

“The growing number of people in the state that are being diagnosed with diabetes makes the need for education and outreach crucial,” said Cilenti. “We’ve seen the request for diabetes supplies increase dramatically in recent years as a result of increases in the cost of insulin and supplies. Therefore, the money we raise from the gala and sponsorships are vital to our fundraising efforts so we can continue to help local children, families and seniors in need.”

The Diabetes Foundation Awards Dinner corporate sponsors include Jack Daniels Motors, Oritani Bank, BD, Inserra Supermarkets, M&T Bank, Sanofi, and McCann and McCann. Sponsorship packages are still available.

The Host Committee for “Visions of Hope” is comprised of 25 local business leaders and community members including real estate agent and business owner Terrie O’Connor and Lindsey Inserra, vice president of ShopRite Inserra Supermarkets.

Sponsorship opportunities and event tickets are still available. Individual ticket prices range from $200 to $500 and can be purchased online at the Diabetes Foundation website at, email, or by calling (201) 444-0337.
