Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Awards Top-Tier Rating for Multiple Aspects of Resident Care
PORT CLINTON, OHIO (February 23, 2021) – Edgewood Manor Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a skilled nursing facility in Port Clinton, Ohio, just earned a top-level “5-Star” rating for its “Quality Measures” from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in its annual review of care facilities.
CMS is one of the regulatory organizations that has oversight of skilled nursing facilities. This 5-star rating affirms that Edgewood Manor is ranked at the top when it comes to the quality of care residents receive.
“Earning this 5-Star Quality Measures rating is the result of the great lengths our team goes to care for our residents on a daily basis,” said Edgewood Manor Administrator Frank Swinehart. “We have an extremely skilled and hard-working staff, and earning this high CMS rating, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, shows the great level of safety, care, and success we bring to our residents.”
How CMS Develops the Ratings
CMS uses a combination of facility inspections and data when creating its ratings. Facilities are then awarded between one and five stars based on their success in providing care and service in that category.
Skilled nursing facilities receiving five stars are ranked at the top of that category, and are what CMS calls “much above average.” Edgewood Manor’s CMS rating compares the facility to those both in Ohio and nationally.
When determining “Quality Measures” for skilled nursing facilities, CMS assesses more than 30 categories for both short- and long-term residents.
