SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., May 2, 2012 – The sounds of sacred music will fill the sanctuary at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel of South Orange, N.J., when congregants and members of the surrounding community join together for a Festive Musical Shabbat service on Friday, May 18, at 7:30 pm. Showcasing a variety of uplifting Jewish songs and powerful sacred music, the evening will celebrate the life and work of Theodore Aronson, who is retiring after 45 years of service as the temple’s Cantor. Congregants of all ages are welcome to attend in honor of Cantor’s legacy and his transition to Cantor Emeritus.

With a focus on family and friends, the service will include the rich voices of fellow cantors, who will join Cantor Aronson in song on the bimah. Cantor’s son, Noah Aronson, a celebrated musician and composer, and Cantor’s daughter, Danit Aronson, a gifted singer, will also be offering musical tributes, as will the temple’s rabbis. All members of the community are invited to join the congregation to enjoy this evening of beautiful music.

Visiting cantors include Cantor Mark Biddelman of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley, Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and Cantor Charles Romalis of Temple Beth Tikvah, Wayne, N.J.

All are welcome to contribute to a digital commemorative journal in honor of Cantor. To post a tribute or to honor Cantor with a donation that will benefit his synagogue for years to come, visit http://wizadjournal.com/tsticelebration2012/.
