History
The agency is known for its integrity and efficiency as an outgrowth of one of the oldest, most established title insurance companies in New Jersey. Founded in 1957 by Allen Meccia, Sr., as Commonwealth Lawyers Abstract Company, the firm was acquired by Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company in 1963 and operated as a branch office. In 2002, the company began operating independently under the guidance of Allen Meccia, Jr., Leo Foose and Allen Meccia, Sr., as Commonwealth Bergen Title Agency, LLC and changed its name in 2009 to First Bergen Title Agency, LLC. Today, the company writes title insurance through three well-respected underwriters: Chicago Title Insurance Company and Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company, members of the Fidelity National Financial family of title companies, as well as Old Republic National Title Insurance Company, one of the largest independent title insurance providers in the United States. Through these strategic alliances, First Bergen services clients nationwide.

Executive Leadership
Allen Meccia, Jr., Managing Member, began his title insurance career more than 30 years ago while he was still in high school. Guided by his father, who founded the company, he learned the business from the ground-up. After college, he joined the family business full time in 1984 and has been instrumental to the company’s continued growth. Today, Meccia, Jr., is responsible for all day-to-day operations of First Bergen, including oversight of all transactions, client management and staff supervision. He has built a solid reputation in the title insurance industry handling commercial transactions and is committed to providing hands-on quality service to clients. During the course of his career, he has closed transactions ranging from traditional to highly complex. He holds a Title Insurance Producer’s License and is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor’s degree in business management.
