Synagogue Program Helps Build a Sense of Community across All Age Levels
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., March 5, 2014 – Fourth graders from Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel’s Religious School led Shabbat services that included songs, prayer and creative readings. After the service, the children enjoyed a special “Awesome Oneg” created for them by TSTI High School teens, featuring a program about Jewish artifacts that tied in to the 4th grade Religious School curriculum. Social action projects for siblings were offered at the same time, while parents socialized at the main oneg. The synagogue hosts “Awesome Onegs” throughout the year for third through fifth graders to help foster a sense of community across all age levels.
