Fundraisers Achieve Success at Fairlane Village Mall
Shopping Center is an Ideal Venue for Holding a Variety of Non-profit Events

POTTSVILLE, Pa., March 25, 2014 – Fairlane Village Mall is more than Schuylkill County’s favorite place to shop.  Each year, the mall joins with a number of non-profit groups to host fundraisers, special events and programs designed to create awareness and raise valuable funds for countless charitable organizations.

“At Fairlane Village Mall, we believe in giving back to the community and supporting local organizations that help make a difference,” said Heather Stine, Fairlane Village Mall’s director of marketing. “We are proud to support so many extraordinary people and organizations in achieving their fundraising goals.”

In September, The Brightest Star in the Sky Espn Murphy Foundation held its Chinese Auction and direct sellers’ vendor show at Fairlane Village Mall to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event, held in conjunction with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, attracted about 800 participants and raised $14,000, according to Jill Murphy, the organization’s founder. Proceeds raised will support the hospital’s pediatric brain tumor research program.

“Last year was our second Chinese Auction but the first time the event was held at Fairlane Village Mall and it was a huge success. The mall’s high consumer traffic enabled us to reach a large audience of attendees. Ample on-site parking and enough floor space to accommodate vendors were added benefits. Heather and her staff helped with event marketing, and went above and beyond to ensure a positive outcome,” noted Murphy.

On Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the mall will hold a vendor sale/Chinese Auction to benefit “Sissy’s Squad,” a team of participants in the Walk to Defeat ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) on June 7. All proceeds from the vendor sale/Chinese Auction will benefit the ALS Foundation’s Greater Philadelphia Chapter. ALS, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

“Fairlane Village Mall is a very community-oriented mall, and we felt there was no better place to hold our fundraiser,” said Patty Shoener, the event’s co-chair. Sissy’s Squad was named in honor of Shoener’s mother, who lost her life to ALS. “The mall is very visible, there’s plenty of parking and plenty of room inside for our vendors. We hope to generate a lot of community interest and exceed our fundraising goals.”

In early March, a successful Chinese Auction and Home Party Expo to benefit Make-A-Wish also took place at the mall, featuring more than 20 home party vendors and 200 prizes. The event raised more than $6,000 for the organization.

Fairlane Village Mall, “Where Schuylkill County Shops For Value,” is located on Route 61 North, just a mile from downtown Pottsville. For more information about community events hosted by the mall or special sales for area shoppers, visit http://www.shopfairlanevillage.com/.
