Middlesex County Location Marks Burger Chain’s First N.J. Drive-Thru Experience
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Jan. 29, 2024) – Fast casual restaurant Shake Shack recently marked the opening of its first Garden State drive-thru location at 240 Grand Ave. in North Brunswick, bringing another quality national tenant to MainStreet NB. Located at 2300 Route 1, the mixed-use, transit-oriented development is being developed by Garden Commercial.
The 3,500-square-foot Shake Shack features a double drive-thru; it represents only the 32nd restaurant – out of the burger chain’s more than 500 locations system-wide – to feature a drive-thru experience. Shake Shack’s menu includes made-to-order Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken, hand-spun milkshakes, house-made lemonades and more. Patrons can dine-in or take out; pickup and delivery are available from the brand’s Shack App or website.
“Shake Shack has a loyal following, and we are thrilled to bring this strong, nationally recognized brand to MainStreet NB,” said Garden Commercial’s Michael Gartenberg, director. “The opening represents another milestone for this master-planned project’s retail component and introduces a welcome new dining option for the entire North Brunswick community.” Gartenberg served as in-house representative for the Shake Shack lease; the tenant was represented by Jeffrey Howard of RIPCO Real Estate.
As part of its grand opening celebration, Shake Shack selected Rutgers Gardens, Rutgers University’s 180-acre botanic garden in North Brunswick, to receive $1 from every burger and sandwich sold at the MainStreet NB location on opening day. Garden Commercial matched Shake Shack’s donation.
The Shake Shack opening will be followed by another fast casual dining addition at MainStreet NB. Chipotle is set to launch operations for its new 2,600-square-foot location with a digital drive-thru order pickup Chipotlane at the property in late February.
Anchored by Costco and Target, MainStreet NB’s retail component also features Panera Bread and The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grill. Located on the former 212-acre Johnson & Johnson North Brunswick campus, the development also includes a proposed NJ Transit rail station; a Courtyard by Marriott hotel; office space; and a residential component that includes Heights at Main Street, a collection of 158 luxury townhomes, and 242 rental apartments and duplexes currently under construction.
