Inserra-Hughes Serves as Vice President of Health and Wellness of Inserra Supermarkets
MAHWAH, N.J., April 7, 2016 – The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) will honor Lindsey Inserra-Hughes with its “Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise” Award at the organization’s “Woman of Achievement” Gala on April 14. Inserra-Hughes, who resides in Mahwah, is the vice president of health and wellness of Inserra Supermarkets, which owns and operates 22 ShopRite stores located in New Jersey and New York. Each year, GSNNJ recognizes respected female professionals such as Inserra-Hughes, who are leaders, innovators and change makers within their fields, and who are exceptional role models for young women.
“The Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award has special significance to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey as Mrs. Ferdon is a past board president of the legacy Girl Scout Council of Bergen County and past national president of Girl Scouts of the USA. Mrs. Ferdon is still active globally supporting our future leadership of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides,” according to Betty Garger, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey.
“We are privileged to be honoring Lindsey Inserra-Hughes as this year’s recipient of the Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award. Ms. Inserra-Hughes exemplifies the characteristics of a Girl Scout and is a great role model for girls. She was selected for this award due to the great strides she has made in her professional and philanthropic roles. Being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a young age, she has taken her personal experience and turned it into a positive way to influence and help others. Ms. Inserra-Hughes is working to make the world a better place through her work promoting healthy foods and lifestyles and through all of her volunteer roles. It is our distinct pleasure to honor Lindsey Inserra-Hughes at the 2016 Women of Achievement event,” says Garger.
At Inserra Supermarkets, Inserra-Hughes spearheads the company’s wide-ranging and continually expanding health and wellness programming, including the registered dietitians in ten of its ShopRite stores. Prior to joining Inserra Supermarkets, Inserra-Hughes was a social worker at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and Hoboken University Medical Center. She is a graduate from New York University.
Active in the community and dedicated to hunger awareness, Inserra-Hughes was named one of the first junior board members of Table-to-Table, community-based food rescue program in northern New Jersey. In addition, she is a strong advocate for diabetes research and support. She also serves as the Young Professional Chair of the Northeast Board of the Diabetes Research Institute.
“I applaud the work the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey does on a daily basis in inspiring girls to reach their fullest potential,” said Inserra-Hughes. “I am truly honored to receive the ‘Elinor J. Ferdon’ Award and thank the Girl Scouts for this recognition.”
The GSNNJ’s “Woman of Achievement” Gala will be held on Thursday, April 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, N.J. For more information, please visit the event page on the GSNNJ site.
