Inserra Supermarkets’ ShopRite of Hoboken Hosts “Help Bag Hunger” Event to Aid in Filling the Shelves of Local Food Pantries and Charities

Community Leaders Joined Effort to Raise Hunger Awareness

HOBOKEN, N.J., Jan. 17, 2017 – In its continuing effort to give back to the community and raise awareness of food insecurity, Inserra Supermarkets hosted “Help Bag Hunger” events in each of its 22 stores, including ShopRite of Hoboken. During the fundraiser, community leaders volunteered to bag groceries for customers as ShopRite of Hoboken associates collected monetary donations. All proceeds are earmarked to aid in filling the shelves of food banks and charities.

“We thank our customers and community leaders for joining with us in the fight against hunger,” said Lawrence Inserra, Jr., chairman and CEO of the family-owned grocery store chain. “At Inserra Supermarkets, we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide support for the local food pantries and hunger-relief charities in our communities. It’s exactly what my grandfather did when he opened our first store decades ago and it’s what my family will always continue to do.”

Inserra Supermarkets, which is a member of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative, is widely acknowledged as a good corporate citizen, dedicated to improving the lives of local residents and those in need. Every fall in recognition of National Hunger Awareness Month, Inserra Supermarkets participates in ShopRite Partners in Caring’s “Help Bag Hunger” events. Since the inception of ShopRite Partners in Caring in 1999, more than $40 million has been donated to 1,700+ charities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Those include local food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior citizens programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need.
