Free Nutrition Services and Programs Now Available in ShopRite of Ramsey, Hackensack and Hoboken

RAMSEY/HACKENSACK/HOBOKEN, N.J., Jan. 20, 2014 – Inserra Supermarkets has announced the appointment of three registered dietitians who will be providing nutrition counseling and programming at its ShopRite stores in Ramsey, Hackensack and Hoboken. ShopRite’s retail dietitian program is designed to provide customers with a free wellness resource while they are shopping or planning meals. Each store also hosts a LiveRight calendar of events featuring healthy food and meal preparation tips for people of all ages.

The newest Inserra dietitians include Jennifer Blume, MS, RD; Emily Johnston, RD, CDE; and Jenna Stock, RD, who will be advising customers at ShopRite of Ramsey, Hackensack and Hoboken, respectively.

“We are pleased to expand our retail dietitian services to educate and advise customers at three more of our stores,” said Lawrence Inserra, Jr. “Today’s consumer is an educated consumer, and our goal is to help them, in whatever way we can, to make sound food choices and learn techniques for healthy meal preparation.”

Blume earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Nutrition Education from Montclair State University. Her areas of specialization include weight loss and bariatric diets, as well as pediatric, prenatal, geriatric, diabetic and heart-healthy nutrition.

A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, Stock has a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences and Hospitality Management. She completed a dietetic internship with ARAMARK Healthcare and, before joining ShopRite, she researched, designed, and administered nutrition plans to assist individuals in disease recovery and weight loss. Stock holds a certificate of training in adult weight management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Johnston is a Certified Diabetes Educator and holds a certificate of training in pediatric and adolescent weight management from the Commission on Dietetic Registration. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and completed her dietetic internship at Montclair State University.

Each month, dietitians at Inserra’s ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey and New York State host a series of events for the general public. In addition to small group and one-on-one counseling, they host healthy cooking classes, recipe demonstrations, pantry makeover seminars and in-store aisle tours.

Promoting wellness is an overriding philosophy at Inserra Supermarkets, which also recently expanded its heart-healthy Chef Express menu choices. During the course of each week, the creative culinary minds at each Inserra Supermarkets ShopRite create flavorful and nutritious entrees. Ready-to-heat options range from honey-roasted salmon to turkey burgers with Greek yogurt sauce.

Inserra Supermarkets is widely acknowledged as a good corporate citizen dedicated to making life better for local residents. One recent activity includes ShopRite Partners in Caring, which challenges associates to band together as part of National Hunger Action Month to raise awareness and funds to alleviate hunger in their local communities. The company also supports the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, based in Hillside, and Table to Table, the first food rescue program serving Northern New Jersey.
