Leading Experts will Examine Economic Trends Shaping New Jersey’s CRE Landscape

SHORT HILLS, N.J. (Jan. 10, 2024) – The first big commercial real estate event of the year will take an in-depth look at how current economic trends are shaping the commercial real estate landscape in New Jersey. NAIOP New Jersey’s “Annual Meeting and Commercial Real Estate Outlook,” which will be held on Thursday, January 25, will also include the election of the commercial real estate development association’s 2024 officers and trustees.

Richard Barkham, global chief economist, head of Global Research & head of Americas Research with CBRE, will address the current global, regional and local economic climate. Following his keynote presentation, a panel of industry experts will delve into the connection between local economic trends and the state’s commercial real estate sector. Topics will include:

  • Key factors that are influencing the market
  • How broader economic trends are impacting the CRE industry
  • Changing consumer behaviors that are influencing development and investment

Confirmed panelists include Morris A. Davis, Paul V. Profeta Chair of Real Estate and professor of Finance and Economics, and academic director, Rutgers Center for Real Estate; Will Irving, associate professor of Practice, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy; and Jeffrey G. Otteau, managing partner and chief economist, Otteau Group Inc., and managing broker, Hudson Atlantic Realty Advisors, Inc, The Otteau Group.

“CRE markets continue to face more uncertainty than clarity as we turn the corner into 2024,” said Otteau. “While the Fed’s signals for lowering interest rates will likely bring a rebound in deal flow, unfinished business in taming inflation could trigger another wave or rising interest rates down the road. This program will provide essential forward guidance for CRE investment in the coming year as we continue to navigate through uncharted waters.”

The January 25 event will take place at the Hilton Short Hills, 41 John F. Kennedy Parkway in Short Hills. Networking and cocktails begin at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and the program.
