Mount Laurel, N.J., Skilled Nursing Facility Joins AACVPR and ALA in Highlighting Lung Health Throughout the Year

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., March 17, 2022 – Care team members and residents at Laurel Brook Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center – including (pictured left and right) Dr. John Bermingham, the facility’s pulmonologist, and Barbara Vennell, its full-time respiratory therapist – celebrated Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week (March 13-19) and this year’s “Moving More, Breathing Better” theme. The annual observation, an initiative of The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), recognizes rehabilitation’s key role in enhancing quality of life for individuals with lung disease.

Laurel Brook joins AACVPR and The American Lung Association (ALA) in prioritizing lung health throughout the year. The ALA offers the following tips on keeping lungs healthy:

  • Get regular checkups with a healthcare provider, as lung disease can go undetected until serious.
  • Prevent infection by washing hands often and getting vaccinated.
  • Exercise.
  • Don’t smoke.

Located at 3718 Church Road, the 220-bed skilled nursing facility, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. Its physician-led pulmonary rehabilitation programming aims to reduce pulmonary symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and promote independence and quality of life. The program caters to the individual who has subacute rehab and medical needs related to an acute exacerbation or new onset of pulmonary disease.

Established over 100 years ago, the ALA is the nation’s leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. The AACVPR, which was founded in 1985, is a multidisciplinary professional association with the mission to reduce morbidity, mortality and disability through education, prevention, rehabilitation, research and disease management.

Laurel Brook is committed to serving as a healthcare resource for the families of patients and the local community. It offers a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest. The library and more information on the skilled nursing facility can be found at
