1,012 Lots Feature Never-Before-Seen Type I Photographs and Vintage Baseball Cards and Memorabilia

KINGSTON, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2024) — Love of the Game Auctions’ (LOTG’s) 2024 Fall Premier Auction is now open, running until Saturday, Nov. 30. With 1,012 lots, LOTG is presenting a significant auction, highlighted by The Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography, a large, never-before-seen collection of valuable and historic original Type I photographs.

“There are many historically important items in this auction that we are so excited to present,” said Al Crisafulli, LOTG founder and auction director. “With the Durham Find, hobbyists and investors will have the unique opportunity to explore vintage photographs with rich history that are fresh to the hobby.”

The Durham Find came to LOTG’s consignors as part of an inheritance and includes one of a kind and historically significant photographs from the 1920s-50s. The collection is comprised predominantly of Type I photos, as authenticated by PSA. Photographs featuring some of baseball’s most influential players from the era are represented in the collection, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, and Ty Cobb.

Other notable auction highlights include:

  • 1927 Babe Ruth, Miller Huggins & Lou Gehrig (HOF) Original Large Format Type I Photo by Louis Van Oeyen (PSA/DNA): This 11×14 large format photo features titans of the baseball world converging at League Park (then known as Dunn Field) during what many consider the game’s most legendary season.
  • 1924 Willard’s Chocolates #5 Babe Ruth (HOF) – SGC EX+ 5.5: Scarce 1924 Willard’s Canadian-issued card of Babe Ruth, labeling him as “Home Run Champion.”
  • April 11, 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers vs. New York Yankees Ticket Stub: An extraordinary ticket stub from the 1947 game between the Dodgers and Yankees from just before the start of the season. This is the first game Jackie Robinson played with a major league team – just the second example known to exist. This is part of an outstanding assortment of memorabilia from early in Robinson’s career.
  • 1947 Jackie Robinson (HOF) Original Type I Rookie Photo by Barney Stein (PSA/DNA – Clyde King Collection): Exceptional Type I rookie photo of Jackie Robinson, taken by official Brooklyn Dodgers team photographer, Barney Stein.
  • 1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Honus Wagner (HOF – Throwing) – SGC EX 5: Produced in 1909 by Dockman & Sons, this E92 card features Hall of Famer Honus Wagner. Higher-grade Dockman cards are not easy to find, and this bright and colorful card is extremely desirable.
  • “McGraw’s Pitching Machine” – A new original painting by Graig Kreindler, one of the most renowned sports artists working today.
  • An extraordinary collection of ticket stubs from Michael Jordan’s rookie season of 1984–85, including a highly desirable ticket stub from his NBA debut.
