Norristown, Pa., Skilled Nursing Facility’s Expanding Offerings Meet Area Need

NORRISTOWN, Pa., April 14, 2022 — Building on its commitment to quality of life for residents and their loved ones, Markley Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center has introduced in-facility palliative care services under the direction of Eric Goodlev, MD, and Ahashta Johnson, MD, of the Einstein Healthcare Network. Located at 550 E. Fornance St. in Norristown, the 121-bed skilled nursing facility provides short-term rehab, long-term care and post-hospital care.

Palliative care is a specialized medical model for people living with a serious, chronic or life-limiting illness. It focuses on providing the necessary medical, emotional and spiritual support to help relieve symptoms and stress, with the goal to improve quality of life for both the resident and their loved ones. Administered by a trained team of doctors, nurses and specialists, palliative care often accompanies curative treatment.

“The introduction of palliative services is a testament to Markley’s emphasis on providing holistic skilled nursing care,” said Danielle Koons, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “Markley is pleased to partner with Einstein in this new initiative and welcomes Drs. Johnson and Goodlev, both of whom are highly regarded palliative care specialists.”

Einstein Healthcare Network in fall 2021 joined Jefferson Health, creating an integrated 18-hospital health system serving the Greater Philadelphia region. Einstein has a well-established Home Health, Hospice & Palliative Care practice.

Markley, which maintains a four-star rating for quality measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), is undergoing a $3.5 million repositioning and rebranding. The upgrade in progress is touching every part of the three-story building, creating a modern, home-like environment for residents and further enhancing the facility’s capabilities to provide top-level therapy and programming options.  In addition to the new Palliative Care services, the facility recently introduced short-term care specialties including subacute rehab and a post-surgical Orthopedic Transitions Program.

Committed to serving as a healthcare resource for area residents, Markley, together with Marquis, has established a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest for families of patients and the larger community. The library and more information on the skilled nursing facility can be found at markleyrehab.com.

Based in Brick, N.J., Marquis Health Consulting Services is a highly skilled and vision-driven nursing home consulting company currently supporting Mid-Atlantic and New England facilities totaling approximately 6,000 skilled nursing and assisted living beds.
