Appointment Coincides with Repositioning and Rebranding at Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Skilled Nursing Facility

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (Aug. 23, 2023) Montgomery Subacute and Respiratory Center in Plymouth Meeting has promoted Gerald Meis, DO, to pulmonary director. Located at 251 Stenton Avenue, the 60-bed skilled nursing facility provides subacute rehabilitation and long-term care to those who are ventilator dependent.

Dr. Meis’ appointment follows a recent rebranding and comes as Montgomery (formerly Fox Subacute) is being repositioned with enhanced programming. Comprehensive building renovations are also planned.

Board certified in pulmonary disease and internal medicine, Dr. Meis previously served as an attending physician at Montgomery. He possesses more than 20 years of experience in pulmonary medicine and is affiliated with Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

“This new and notable leadership role for Dr. Meis is a reflection of Montgomery’s commitment to recognize talent from within,” said Danielle Koons, senior regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports Montgomery. “Montgomery has a long history of providing progressive post acute and stabilized ventilator care, drawing patients from all across Pennsylvania, neighboring states and beyond. The center’s planned modernization and enhancements, including the addition of onsite dialysis, will take Montgomery to the next level.”

Montgomery’s specialized services focus on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing pulmonary symptoms and decreasing disability for medically compromised individuals who are vent dependent. Montgomery, which features facility-wide oxygen and daily therapies, offers an expansive range of programming, including ENT services, physiatry, cardiac rehabilitation and wound care, among numerous others.

Pulmonary patients benefit from 24/7 care provided by respiratory therapists, pulmonologists, and specially trained nurses and caregivers. Many staff members have been at the facility for years, including Kristine Marano, director of nursing, and Richi Oommen, director of respiratory – whose tenures are 14 and 15 years, respectively.

“I am pleased to expand my role here at Montgomery,” said Dr. Meis. “Our services regularly gain recognition for our successful wean rate as well as the reduction of hospital readmissions. I look forward to continuing to work with our dedicated, talented team and being an integral part of the facility’s next chapter.”

Montgomery’s expansive life enrichment initiatives are aimed at boosting the physical and mental health of patients. Activities include daily visits outside, weather permitting, to its landscaped grounds and excursions to area attractions.
