Bloomingdale Resident Dave Berryman Wins 6th Consecutive Overall Title
MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J., March 17, 2014 – The grueling winter may have placed considerable demands on their time and energy, but that did not stop dozens of New Jersey's multi-family maintenance professionals from facing off in a series of challenges designed to test their skill, speed and agility. Despite their best efforts, defending champion Dave Berryman of The Kamson Corporation once again took top honors as the New Jersey Apartment Association (NJAA) hosted its 6th Annual Maintenance Mania competition on Tuesday, March 11th.
The enthusiastic group of 84 multi-family maintenance technicians from across the state gathered at the Collins Arena at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, N.J. to put their on-the-job knowledge to the test in eight timed, skill-based games. Challenges included the Bradford White Water Heater Installation, CFG Faucet Installation, Kidde Fire & Carbon Monoxide Safety Installation and among other games, the Kwikset Key Control Deadbolt Test. The highlight of the event, the Motorola & Niagara Conservation Race Car Competition, featured miniature vehicles that participants crafted from materials they use on the job.
"I knew coming in that I was the guy everyone wanted to beat," said Berryman, who finished with a total time of 1:46. "I'm happy to be taking home the trophy again, but to be honest it would be great to see someone else win. These guys are all terrific at what they do." Anthony Cintron of Morgan Properties finished second overall, and Piotr Maj of Value Companies, Inc. rounded out the top three.
Trophies were also awarded for race car design: Jose Nieves of Home Properties won for Best Use of Maintenance Supplies and Jose Feliciano of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. won the Peoples Choice Award.
Maintenance Mania® is a national competition sponsored by the National Apartment Association (NAA) and its affiliates, and presented by HD Supply, a leading distributor of maintenance and renovation products. Berryman of Bloomingdale, Cintron of Easthampton/Mount Holly and Maj of Saddle Brook each qualify for the chance to join top regional representatives from across the country at the NAA's National Maintenance Mania Championships this June in Denver, Colorado.
"The service side of our industry is critically important, yet often unheralded," said Brent Kohere of Home Properties, NJAA's immediate past president and the day's master of ceremonies. "This event is a tribute to the pride and passion of these hard working professionals, as well as a chance for them to relax and have some fun."
