July 11: NJDEP Officials, Industry Experts to Discuss Priority Issues Impacting CRE Development 

EDISON, N.J. (July 3, 2024) – From land use regulations to third-party inspections to energy policy priorities, NAIOP New Jersey’s annual Regulatory, Legislative and Legal Update will examine New Jersey’s latest rules and proposals and offer insight into how the state’s evolving standards will impact commercial real estate development. The program will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Northeast Carpenters Training Center in Edison.   

Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Shawn M. LaTourette, will provide updates on the Resilient Environments and Landscapes (REAL) Rule Proposal and the Division of Fish and Wildlife (NJAC 7:25) Rule Proposal. Jacquelyn A. Suárez, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, will address progress on Third Party Inspection and Plan Review Certification.   

A series of panel discussions featuring industry experts will take a deep dive into these proposed reforms and other priority issues. Confirmed topics and speakers include: 

  • Resilient Environments and Landscapes (REAL) Response: Emily M. Lamond, member, Cole Schotz P.C. (discussion leader); Andrew B. Robbins, of counsel, Sills Cummins & Gross P.C.; Anthony Castillo, PE, principal, SESI Consulting Engineers; and Robert March, PWS, associate, Natural Resources, Langan. 
  • Policy Paper Presentation: Energy Policy Priorities for the CRE Sector: Dan Kennedy, CEO, NAIOP NJ (discussion leader); Robert Gordon, vice president, Stevens & Lee Public Affairs; Jeffrey E. Grant, MBA, PE, CEM, CEP, owner, EnergyPlus Solutions; Rich Henning, president and CEO, New Jersey Utilities Association; and Ray Bukowski, managing director, Government Affairs, Communications and Sustainability, NJ Resources. 
  • Building Out a Third-Party Inspection & Certification Service Sector: James Rhatican, vice president of Land Use and Development, assistant general counsel, Hartz Mountain Industries (discussion leader); additional panelists to be confirmed. 

Continental breakfast and networking begins at 7:45 a.m., followed by the program from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. New Jersey licensed real estate brokers/salespersons, attorneys, architects and LSRPs may receive continuing education credits for attending the program.
