Beloved Asbury Park Couple Honored by Skilled Nursing Facility

Herbert and Ellen Jackson

NEPTUNE CITY, N.J. (July 17, 2023) — The power of love was on full display at Coral Harbor Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center as residents Herbert and Ellen Jackson recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. The Jacksons were treated to a beautiful celebration at the skilled nursing facility, with residents and staff toasting the couple’s special relationship.

Herbert and Ellen were married in Asbury Park on May 3, 1948, in a simple ceremony at City Hall. They met at the Convention Hall in Asbury Park, and they were both dancers, sharing the joy of the art form their entire lives together. The couple has two children, Gwen, the eldest by 13 years, and Herbert Jr.

The couple officially moved to Asbury Park in 1960 and lived in the same house on First Ave. for decades. While living in the area, the couple frequently visited the Asbury Senior Center and attended church together every Sunday. Their passion for their faith led to them founding the Faith Baptist Church in Asbury Park.

Ellen was a beautician in Asbury until she later became an administrator at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Herbert spent his career as a professional baker and delivery driver, becoming a popular figure throughout the community.

When asked what is the secret to a long marriage, the Jacksons simply stated, “family and good food.”
