Easton, Pa., Skilled Nursing Facility’s Specialized Programs Serve Area Needs
EASTON, Pa., April 27, 2021 – New Eastwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Easton has announced a new partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network. The skilled nursing facility’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is now under the direction of St. Luke’s board-certified pulmonologists Livia Bratis, DO, and Malek Numeir, MD.
New Eastwood’s Pulmonary Rehab Program aims to reduce pulmonary symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and promote independence and quality of life. It caters to the individual who has subacute rehab and medical needs related to an acute exacerbation or new onset of pulmonary disease process.
“New Eastwood continues its focus on partnering with leading health systems like St. Luke’s and highly respected physicians, such as Dr. Bratis and Dr. Numeir,” said Jennifer Hertzog, vice president of marketing and business development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the skilled nursing facility. “These key connections enable New Eastwood to provide healthcare specialty programs that meet the needs of residents in Easton and greater Northampton County area.
In addition to consults with Dr. Bratis, Dr. Numeir and other board-certified specialists, New Eastwood respiratory patients benefit from a full-time respiratory therapist on staff, 24/7 access to lab and radiology services, therapy services as prescribed up to seven days a week, a comprehensive range of oxygen and nebulizer therapies, and the availability of IV Lasix and Solumedrol treatments. The facility’s piped-in oxygen capabilities promote ease of breathing for patients by enabling the use of Oxymizer and Optiflow therapies. The program also includes tracheostomy care and management. Pulmonary rehab services are part of New Eastwood’s comprehensive Cardio Pulmonary Program; board-certified cardiologist Dr. Koroush Khalighi leads the cardiac rehab initiative.
Dr. Bratis and Dr. Numeir are with St. Luke’s Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates, where Dr. Bratis has served as chief since 2012. Dr. Bratis earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at Philadelphia College of Medicine, as well as a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Drexel University. Dr. Bratis is a clinical assistant professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University; she has received numerous patient choice and teaching awards.
Dr. Numeir earned his medical degree from Damascus University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine training at Drexel University and his pulmonary and critical care fellowship training at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Numeir joined St. Luke’s in 2016 and also serves as a clinical assistant professor at Temple University’s medical school.
