Rabbi Allie Klein Will Lead Adult Ed Session about the Reform Movement and its Evolution over the Past Century
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Oct. 26, 2015 – Rabbi Allie Klein of Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange, will lead “Reform Judaism: Then and Now,” an overview and discussion about Reform Judaism and the changes it has undergone through the decades. The free program, which will be held on Monday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m., is open to the public; to register email Tracy Horwitz at thorwitz@tstinj.org by November 6.
Attendees will explore the evolution of Reform Jewish principles since the movement’s inception in the 1890s, and compare those ideas to what the concept of “Reform” means to Jews today. “It can be hard to define a Jewish movement that prides itself on inclusion, flexibility and having the ‘biggest tent’ possible,” said Klein. “What’s more, the principles of Reform Judaism have changed greatly since its creation over a century ago.”
Klein will discuss how the movement has sought to redefine itself over the past century and will help participants – both TSTI members and guests – develop a clearer view of the precepts and shared vision held by TSTI as a contemporary Reform congregation. Attendees will discover the common language that unites adherents of the movement in order to better understand Reform practices and strengthen their connection to the Jewish community.
