Initiative at Bergen County, N.J., Skilled Nursing Facility Responds to Regional Demand
OAKLAND, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2023) — Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center has launched a Korean cultural program in response to regional demand. The 215-bed skilled nursing facility, located at 20 Breakneck Road in Oakland, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.
Oakland’s dedicated Korean program centers on a culturally authentic environment for the care and comfort of Korean seniors. With the support of caregivers and medical professionals who share their values and speak their language, residents enjoy familiar traditional décor, ethnic cuisine prepared in-house, and special cultural programming and recreational activities.
Oakland developed the cultural offering with Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “There are sizable Korean communities in northern New Jersey, with over 100,000 Korean senior citizens in the region; this program aims to meet that high local demand,” said Marquis’ Kani Burgos, regional director of market development. “The cultural offering, which reflects Oakland’s focus on quality of life, helps Korean seniors to feel at home by providing familiarity in every aspect of their care and daily activities.”
Oakland’s Korean initiative is modeled after other cultural programs at Marquis-supported skilled nursing facilities, including the Korean program at Arbor Ridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Wayne. Regional demographics and demand drive these popular initiatives, which ultimately draw residents from well beyond the immediate area.
Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center was recently named one of the nation’s “Best Nursing Homes 2022-23” for long-term care by U.S. News & World Report; additionally, last fall, it was included among Newsweek’s “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2023.” The Bergen County facility maintains five-star overall and quality measures ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Brick, N.J-based Marquis Health Consulting Services provides administrative and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities and senior housing communities along the Eastern Seaboard. The organization’s operational guidance enables its client facilities to overachieve their quality and customer service goals by embracing a progressive, multi-specialty approach to healthcare.
