Week-Long Event Heightens Community Awareness about Sexual Violence Prevention
RIDGEWOOD, N.J., May 6, 2014 – For the seventh consecutive year, Panico Salon & Spa partnered with YWCA Bergen County to raise awareness about the prevention of sexual violence. Through its week-long Denim Day event, Panico also raised funds to support the YWCA’s healingSPACE, the only sexual violence resource center in Bergen County.
Denim Day is an education-based initiative that addresses the myths and harmful attitudes about sexual assault and promotes healthy relationships. Panico collected donations, created denim displays and provided educational materials at its three New Jersey locations in Ridgewood, Oradell and West Caldwell. Salon staff also made contributions in exchange for wearing denim to work.
“This year marks the seventh annual statewide observance of Denim Day in New Jersey, and Jack Panico and his team have supported the initiative from the start,” said YWCA CEO Helen Archontou. “We are grateful for their ongoing efforts to raise funds to support survivors of sexual violence, as well as to educate their staff and the community about what they can do to prevent it.”
YWCA Bergen County partners with community organizations, schools and local businesses on events and activities throughout the month of April, which is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
