Determined Nutley, N.J. Resident Commits to Healthy Eating and Exercise Regime
WALLINGTON, N.J., March 10, 2016 – Success is written all over Rich Kunz’s face – and the scale. Seven months ago, the Nutley, N.J. resident embarked on a weight-loss journey and, with the help of Samantha Pappas, R.D., the registered dietitian at ShopRite of Wallington, has lost more than 70 pounds.
“I just knew it was time to change my life,” said Kunz, who has been with Inserra Supermarkets for six years as a loss prevention/asset protection associate. He currently works at ShopRite of Wallington.
With a determined mindset, Kunz walked into the Dietitian’s Corner at ShopRite of Wallington to speak with Pappas about his weight loss goal. From that day forward, Pappas has provided Kunz with one-on-one nutrition counseling and offered words of motivation. The co-workers quickly became friends.
“When Rich first came to the Dietitian’s Corner, he was skipping breakfast and lunch, drinking coffee with sugar all day and then going home for a huge dinner,” said Pappas. “Now, Rich eats five MyPlate-inspired meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. He has been working so hard and clearly, it shows. I couldn’t be more proud of him!”
Inserra’s registered dietitians are a key element of the company’s health and wellness programming for its customers and associates alike. Under the direction of Lindsey Inserra, vice president of corporate health and wellness, and Jenna Werner, R.D., manager of corporate retail health and wellness, the dietitians lead an array of store-based nutrition and wellness events each month. Offerings include cooking classes for adults and kids, nutrition counseling, health screenings and much more.
“Samantha has been nothing but amazing ever since I walked into the Dietitian’s Corner and asked for help,” noted Kunz. “She recommends a variety of challenges for me, such as trying different vegetables and fruits so I don’t get bored with the same foods. She has truly changed my life and words cannot express how thankful I am.”
A certified personal trainer, Pappas also counseled Kunz on how healthy eating and exercise go hand-in-hand when making positive lifestyle changes. Kunz implemented a regime of walking between five to eight miles each day and has stuck to it. “I haven’t felt this good in probably 20 years!” remarked Kunz with a smile.
