Event Features Cocktails in Military Park, Leading to Tri-State Ballroom Gala

NEWARK, N.J., Aug. 19, 2014 – The recently renovated Military Park served as the setting for a cocktail reception for more than 1,000 guests invited to Mayor Ras Baraka’s inaugural ball this summer. The Best Western Robert Treat Hotel, located at 50 Park Place, hosted the event; following the reception, attendees walked across the street to the hotel’s Tri-State Ballroom for a gala celebration.

“In the nearly 40 years our firm has been involved in Newark, we have never seen Military Park serve as the setting for an event of that magnitude,” noted Miles Berger, president and chief executive officer of The Berger Organization, which owns the Robert Treat Hotel. “The newly redesigned and refurbished park has quickly become an outstanding amenity for the neighborhood, and we were pleased to help showcase it as a venue during this important occasion.”

The inaugural ball took place just two weeks after Mayor Baraka’s election, requiring fast planning on part of the hotel’s banquet and catering team. “Orchestrating an event of this size – in two locations – in such a tight timeframe was a challenge but one that we were happy and able to meet,” noted Leon Drogy, banquet manager for the Robert Treat Hotel. “It proved to be an outstanding showcase of our talented staff and the hotel’s beautiful accommodations.”

The Robert Treat Hotel boasts more than 22,000 square feet of ballroom and function space. The Tri-State Ballroom, the largest in Northern New Jersey, accommodates up to 1,500 guests and is divisible for smaller gatherings. The hotel’s sophisticated Crystal Room seats up to 175 people, featuring a dance floor and crystal chandeliers. Additionally, a variety of conference spaces accommodate meetings ranging from 30 to 100 participants.
