The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain among Accounting Firm’s Year-Round Outreach Efforts
WOODLAND PARK, N.J., June 5, 2014 – Transcending the role of a traditional accounting, tax and advisory firm, SaxBST continues to have an extraordinary impact on the communities it serves. By providing expertise, time and resources to non-profits and other charitable organizations, the firm’s partners and employees demonstrate an unwavering commitment to social responsibility and community service.
One example of SaxBST’s philanthropy is The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain, an annual race event benefiting St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey. Founded in 2012 by one of SaxBST’s predecessor firms, Sax Macy Fromm & Co. (SMF), the event raised about $43,000 in its inaugural year for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department. In 2013, participation grew to more than 400 runners and walkers, and 40 business and individual sponsors, raising $62,000 for the hospital’s Child Life Department.
This year’s 4 Miler is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park. Once again, SaxBST is absorbing all expenses associated with the race in order to donate 100 percent of the proceeds raised through sponsors directly to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
“Community involvement is firmly rooted in our corporate culture, and we take tremendous pride in contributing to the communities in which our employees and clients live and work,” said Robert Paz, SaxBST’s co-managing partner. “The 4 Miler is a company-wide effort, and our employees are eager to volunteer their time and talents towards making it a success. It’s been a great way to give back to the community and bring our employees together.”
Beyond the 4 Miler, SaxBST participates in numerous other year-round initiatives that enforce its commitment to corporate citizenry, including the American Diabetes Association’s annual Tour de Cure and the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The firm also supports or sponsors local charity walks, youth sports leagues, arts and entertainment organizations, and civic and business functions.
In their spare time, many SaxBST employees are personally involved with The March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald House Charities; serve on charitable boards and committees; are members of community service and civic organizations; coach youth sports; and volunteer for nonprofits in which they share an emotional connection or have a personal interest.
“We believe that as a corporate citizen SaxBST should participate in, and contribute to, causes beyond our specific mission,” said Stephen L. Ferraro, SaxBST’s co-managing partner. “By selflessly contributing their leadership, time, talent and spirit, our employees are making a significant positive impact in countless lives and communities.”
Planning Under Way for Third Annual 4 Miler
Known as one of Northern New Jersey’s most scenic and challenging race events, the 4 Miler features a 4-mile run on a USA Track and Field Certified (USATF) double-loop race course as well as a 1.5-mile trail walk. Kids’ dashes, with distances ranging from 25 to 200 yards, will be held for youngsters ages 2 to 11. Race day entertainment includes a DJ, random prize drawings, a variety of children’s activities and post-race refreshments. Custom technical t-shirts will be provided to participants while supplies last. Garret Mountain Reservation, a 568-acre landmark in Woodland Park, is located at 288 Rifle Camp Road.
A variety of sponsorship levels are available this year. These include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium and Presenting levels, starting at $700. All sponsorship packages feature a wide range of benefits, such as complimentary race entries and a host of marketing/branding opportunities.
This year’s 4 Miler is introducing a “Corporate Challenge” category, designed to promote friendly competition among companies large and small. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams as well as the title of fittest corporation. Those interested in sponsorship or the Corporate Challenge can contact Danielle Atkinson at datkinson@saxbst.com or (973) 472-6250 for more information.
