Local Residents Enjoy Creative and Educational Trip Down Memory Lane
LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2023) — The Terraces at Seacrest Village celebrated National Assisted Living Week® in September with a week-long exploration of the 1950s. The Terraces at Seacrest Village assisted living residents “strolled down memory lane” via a series of activities that highlighted the decade’s memorable and meaningful moments.
“Active, fun and educational programming is essential to the fulfilling lifestyle our residents enjoy here at The Terraces at Seacrest Village,” said Kelly Reilly, executive director. “The theme of this year’s Assisted Living Week – ‘Season of Reflection’ – inspired our Life Enrichment team to come up with some truly unique ways to entertain, engage and deepen our sense of community.”
Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week offers opportunities for assisted living residents and their loved ones, professionals and volunteers to recognize and celebrate the importance of assisted living care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The Terraces at Seacrest Village Life Enrichment lead Bianca Sutlovich noted that the choice of the ‘50s – a decade that sparked the baby boom, the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and the emergence of suburbia – best reflected the personality of Seacrest’s assisted living community. Throughout the week, daily themed events encouraged residents to share special moments like weddings and anniversaries and recall how children had fun during that time. Other activities focused on key historical events, and an “Outrageous Friday” party closed out the celebration in the true spirit of the decade.
“It was a special week for everyone involved,” said Sutlovich. “Not only did we learn about this period in history, but the memories and experiences shared by our residents were truly priceless.”
