Free Nutrition Services and Programs Available to Customers and Local Community Organizations
HACKENSACK, N.J., Nov. 5, 2015 – Inserra Supermarkets has announced the appointment of Alison Halpern, R.D., C.H.E.S., as the new retail dietitian for ShopRite of Hackensack. In this capacity, Halpern will lead the store’s extensive range of nutrition counseling and programming, providing customers of all ages with a health and wellness resource.
“Alison brings a wealth of experience to this role, having worked in a variety of health education settings with individuals of all ages,” said Lindsey Inserra, vice president of health and wellness.“We are thrilled to have her join our Inserra Supermarkets family, and know she will serve as a valuable resource to our customers in Hackensack and the surrounding communities.”
A resident of Bloomfield, Halpern has a strong background in public health and community health education. In June 2015, Halpern completed her Dietetic Internship at Montclair State University, where she studied clinical nutrition, community nutrition and food service systems as well as medical nutrition therapy. Halpern also graduated summa cum laude from Montclair State with her B.S. in nutrition and food science with a concentration in dietetics and cum laude from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with a B.S. in public health.
Most recently, Halpern worked as the head counselor at HealthBarn USA in Wyckoff, where she led interactive nutrition education and cooking lessons for children and adapted recipes to accommodate food allergies and cultural preferences. Previously, she served as a health promotion supervisor at Montclair State’s Office of Health Promotion and was a volunteer nutrition instructor at the Bubble Foundation, LTD in Manhattan.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with our customers on their health and nutrition goals, helping them to complete the picture of personal wellness,” said Halpern. “Our range of LiveRight programming is aimed at providing ‘something for everyone’ and supporting our shoppers in putting nutritious, flavorful meals on the table with ease.”
Each month, dietitians at Inserra’s ShopRite supermarkets located throughout New Jersey and New York State host a series of free events. In addition to small group and one-on-one counseling, the stores hold healthy cooking classes, recipe demonstrations, and pantry makeover seminars. Inserra Supermarkets is widely acknowledged as a good corporate citizen dedicated to making life better for local residents, and supports numerous non-profits, including Community Food Bank of New Jersey and Table to Table.
ShopRite of Hackensack is located at 500 South River Street in Hackensack, N.J. In addition to leading the full LiveRight calendar of events, ShopRite’s in-store dietitians are available for free one-on-one nutrition counseling and store tours and to present nutrition talks for community groups.
