Performance by Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel Member Lifts Spirits at Village Apartments of Jewish Federation

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Mar. 6, 2015 – Jarod Friedman, a Bar Mitzvah student at Temple Sharey Tefilo Israel (TSTI), recently performed songs and a dance routine at the Village Apartments of Jewish Federation, where his grandfather is a resident. The variety act, staged in the South Orange senior living community, was part of fulfilling a mitzvah component, which is an integral part of becoming a Bar Mitzvah at TSTI.

Jarod sang "The Rainbow Connection," "If I Only Had a Brain" and "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," and performed a dance number to Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." The performance was a family affair: Jarod's twin sisters Lily and Rose supported his mitzvah with poetry readings, and his parents helped him train and rehearse. The fun production became known among family members as the "Jarod Connection."

The Friedmans have been active members of TSTI for over 10 years. Jarod currently attends the Millburn Middle School and takes classes at Performers' Theatre Workshop in Maplewood.

Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel is a vibrant Reform congregation located at 432 Scotland Road in South Orange, N.J.
