Local Residents Enjoy Creative and Educational Trip Down Memory Lane
SPRINGFIELD Twp., Pa. (Sept. 13, 2023) — Springfield Crossings Enhanced Senior Living is celebrating National Assisted Living Week® with a week-long exploration of the Swinging ‘60s. Springfield Crossings’ personal care residents are “strolling down memory lane” via a series of activities highlighting the decade’s memorable and meaningful moments.
“Active, fun and educational programming is essential to the fulfilling lifestyle our residents enjoy here at Springfield Crossings,” said Adrianne Stevens, executive director. “The theme of this year’s Assisted Living Week – ‘Season of Reflection’ – inspired our Life Enrichment team to come up with some truly unique ways to entertain, engage and deepen our sense of community.”
Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week offers opportunities to residents and their loved ones, personal care staff and volunteers to recognize and celebrate the importance of assisted living care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Springfield Crossings Life Enrichment lead Hazel Robertson noted that the choice of the ‘60s – a decade when Motown and the British Invasion were taking over the music scene, color TVs made their debut, and man first walked on the moon – best reflects the personality of Springfield Crossings’ personal care community. Throughout the week, daily themed events encourage residents to share special moments like weddings and anniversaries and recall how children had fun during that time. Other activities focus on key historical events, and an “Outrageous Friday” party will close out the celebration in the true spirit of the decade.
“It is a special week for everyone involved,” said Robertson. “Not only are we learning about this period in history, but the memories and experiences shared by our residents are truly priceless.”
