Next in the line for the limelight is Account Manager Ken Hunter, who is always ready to tackle a challenge – and always brings his signature sense of humor along for the ride.
What drew you to the public relations field? I grew up around it as my father had a distinguished career in PR and community relations, much of it for the State of New York. Seeing his day-to-day work and all he accomplished certainly warmed me to the idea. That said, I spent the early days of my career – about eight years – in business journalism, meeting and working with many PR professionals. When the right offer came at the right time to join an agency, I jumped at the chance.
How long have you been at CCI and what are your primary responsibilities at the agency? Ten years – time sure goes quick. I am an Account Manager directing strategy and day-to-day activities and also serve as the lead in our crisis communication work for a number of clients. I have decades of experience in the crisis communication space and have always found it particularly rewarding (keep reading – more on that below).
What’s the highlight of the workday? Depending on the day, sometimes it’s hearing “Dinner’s ready!” Just kidding. Although it doesn’t happen every workday, a highlight is always counseling clients through a crisis and hearing the relief in their voice toward the end of our discussion. The crisis is likely still ongoing, but they know we will help them get through it.
What is one of your favorite books? “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by Hunter S. Thompson – it’s whacky escapism at its best. Fun fact: years ago, my friend and I met Thompson one night at a bar in Colorado. He couldn’t have been more gracious, and we had a great conversation.
What’s your ideal way to spend a Saturday? A little extra sleep, relaxation and family time take center stage on my Saturdays, helping to de-stress and recharge in equal parts. I am always fond of a Costco run, snacking on some free samples as I check items off my shopping list. Family time these days includes planning my eldest daughter’s wedding and younger daughter’s college graduation – both right around the corner in May.
You’ve just won the lottery? Where would you travel – anywhere in the world – and why? (Caveat: you have to come back to CCI!) The mountains and beach would be calling my name. I would spend a month or so ski bumming in Colorado before heading to Key West – or maybe Maxine’s favorite Bora Bora – to put my feet in the sand and get my tan back.
