SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Feb. 22, 2012 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel will host a pizza social on Friday, March 16 for prospective members to meet the clergy and members of the Temple, which is located at 432 Scotland Road, South Orange, N.J. The evening will begin at 6:30 pm with a casual pizza dinner, with time to mingle and ask questions, followed by Shabbat services at 7:30 pm. Children are welcome for both the dinner and the services.
Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) is a Reform congregation that welcomes all who wish to participate in and celebrate Jewish traditions and rituals. The Temple draws members from many towns, including South Orange, Maplewood, Short Hills, Millburn, Livingston and West Orange. It is recognized throughout the region for its innovative programs, including worship services, community events, and groups dedicated to a wide array of religious, social and educational interests.
The Temple provides a progressive Jewish education to hundreds of children grades K-12 through the Iris Family Pre-School, the Linda and Rudy Slucker Religious School and Hebrew High, along with unique programs designed for children with special needs. In addition, TSTI provides life-long learning with adult educational and social programs.
TSTI is also known for its social justice and environmental initiatives. This includes certification in the ABLE program as a fully accessible and barrier-free synagogue and in the GreenFaith program, an environmental leadership program for houses of worship. TSTI has been recognized as a leader among religious institutions in its use of state-of-the-art technology and serves as a beta site for a new Jewish online learning endeavor.
