Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel Invites Public to Free Programs for Children and Adults in February
South Orange Synagogue to Host Tu B'Shevat Social Action Program for Children and Classes for Adults on Timely Topics

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., Jan. 22, 2015 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel will hold several programs in February that are free and open to the public, including a Tu B'Shevat social action program for children and study circles and discussions for adults.

  • Sat., Feb. 7 Area families are invited to "Holiday Happenings: Tu B'Shevat Soup Kitchen" from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in observance of the Jewish Arbor Day. To celebrate the "new year of the trees," children ages 2 to 10 will help create a mixed vegetable soup in the spirit of the "Stone Soup" story. The soup will be delivered to the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges, which is supported by the TSTI community. Attendees are asked to bring one soup ingredient that begins with the first letter of their last name. Education Directors Carol Paster and Mindy Schreff will also lead songs and an interactive mitzvah story. Advance reservations are required; RSVP at CPaster@tstinj.org no later than Feb. 1. Bagels and coffee will be served.
  • Wed., Feb. 11 – TSTI's Renaissance Group, which sponsors cultural, educational and social programs for mature adults, will hold a brown bag (bring your own) lunch and learn event from 12 to 3 p.m. led by Rabbi Daniel Cohen. Desserts and beverages will be provided. Contact Matty Goldberg, mattygoldberg@comcast.net to reserve a seat.
  • Mon., Feb. 23 – Rabbi Daniel Cohen leads an exploration into religious traditions with "Comparative Religions" at 7 p.m. In this session, he will discuss three areas of overlap among the major world traditions and delve into ways they may use the same terminology but mean very different things. Snow date is March 30. To RSVP and for more information regarding TSTI classes, email Tracy Horwitz at thorwitz@tstinj.org.
