SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., March 10, 2014 – Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) in South Orange invites the public to an evening of rock and rhythm and blues tunes performed by Alan Paul and the Big in China Band on Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. The synagogue’s English Tudor mansion will be transformed into a pub scene for the evening; in addition to the show, a full menu of unlimited bar food and drinks will be served. The cost for the concert and refreshments is $75 per person, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit various programs at TSTI. Advance reservations are required; RSVP to Russell@communikidsnj.com no later than March 24. Payment may be made in advance online at http://bit.ly/NDQdO5.
Big in China’s music is modeled on the signature east-meets-west fusion rock of Paul’s previous band, Woodie Alan, as well as tunes influenced by The Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead. Paul, a member of TSTI, formed Woodie Alan during his years in China and the band earned Beijing’s Band of the Year award in 2008. His published autobiography, “Big in China,” chronicles his experience of arriving in China with his family as a stay-at-home father and leaving Beijing as a rock star. His story is being made into a feature film.
Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel is located at 432 Scotland Road in South Orange. Full program details and information about the Reform synagogue community are available at http://www.tsti.org/.
