Senior Living Community’s Newest Centenarians Share Their Secrets to Longevity and Good Health

Molly (left) and Eula celebrate their 100th birthdays

SPRINGFIELD Twp., Pa. (April 4, 2023)Family members, friends and residents at Springfield Crossings Enhanced Senior Living celebrated two very special birthdays in March. The personal care community hosted a festive party – complete with balloons and birthday cake – to pay tribute to Molly and Eula, who both turned 100.

The guests of honor cited television, the washing machine and air conditioning as the most important inventions in their lifetimes. “We were thrilled to celebrate our newest centenarians,” said Adrianne Stevens, executive director at Springfield Crossings. “Molly and Eula exemplify what life in our community is all about. They take full advantage of the array of programs and activities, and enjoy sharing their experiences with others. At the same time, they and their families take comfort in knowing they have access to age-in-place support and services as needed.”

Asked about their advice for young people on living well, Eula replied, “Be kind and surround yourself with good company.” Molly added, “Stay active and healthy.”

MOLLY’S STORY

Molly moved to Springfield Crossings in 2017 from Clifton Heights, Pa., where she was looked after by her 16 nieces and nephews. She said the secret to her longevity and good health is “doing things that make me happy and staying active.”

An avid baseball fan and longtime supporter of her hometown team, the Philadelphia Phillies, she enjoys knitting, beading and making jewelry for others (she is a member of Springfield Crossings’ Jewelry Making Club). Her favorite pastime at the community is Bingo – a passion that she and Eula both share.

Molly fondly recalls volunteering as a USO hostess during World War II. “I really enjoyed making the troops feel at home by attending dances, welcoming service members into centers, and meeting people from all over the world,” she said.

EULA’S STORY

For Eula, who has lived at Springfield Crossings since August 2022, “Doing right by others, picking my battles wisely and my strong faith have kept me going all these years.” Described by staff and residents as sweet and friendly, Eula enjoys any activity that allows her to interact with others in the community – especially if it includes snacks (she’s partial to cookies and potato chips). She enjoys classical music, reading, morning exercise, therapy, and visits with family.

One of Eula’s favorite memories is her wedding in 1942. “It was the most beautiful day of my life,” said the mother of five, who is proud of her host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “I also served as an usher and volunteered in my church, Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia, and enjoyed helping people whenever I could.”

At Springfield Crossings, residents enjoy a fulfilling, worry-free lifestyle in a charming community with beautifully appointed apartments, gourmet dining and onsite rehab care. They also have access to the services they need, when they need them. Call (610) 595-5294 for more information or schedule a visit and tour.
