National Natural Landmark Serves as Backdrop for Third Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain on Sept. 6

WOODLAND PARK/CLIFTON, N.J., August 18, 2014 –  With warmer weather upon us, there's no better time to go for a run or walk and no better place to do that than at the 568-acre Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, N.J. As one of only 12 National Natural Landmarks in New Jersey designated by the National Park Service, Garret Mountain Reservation provides visitors with grass fields and picnic grounds, eight miles of walking and running trails, a pond, and even an equestrian center and cricket field. Visitors also enjoy sweeping views of Northern New Jersey and Manhattan from numerous overlook spots.

This national treasure will serve as the backdrop for hundreds of runners and walkers gathering together on Saturday, September 6, 2014 for the Third Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain. Hosted by SaxBST, this family-friendly fundraising event supports the Child Life Department at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. The race course for the 4 Miler is USA Track and Field (USATF) certified, offering a mix of both hilly and flat surfaces, with mile clocks and water stops.

"Even though it is a national landmark, Garret Mountain Reservation is a hidden gem of sorts in Passaic County," said Robert Paz, co-managing partner of SaxBST. "We have found it to be the perfect spot for our event as it offers both a challenging trail for the 4-mile run and an easier one for the 1.5-mile walk. There also is ample green space for our kids' events. Whether 4 Miler participants join in the walk or run, they will likely come back to Garret Mountain again and again."

The reservation, located at 288 Rifle Camp Rd. in Woodland Park, is operated by the Passaic County Parks Department. It is easily accessible from both I-80 and the Garden State Parkway (via Route 19) as well as numerous local roads.

In addition to the 1.5-mile walk and 4-mile run, race day will feature kids' dashes, with sprint distances ranging from 25 to 200 yards, for children ages two to 11. All participating children will receive finishing ribbons. New to the 4 Miler is a "Corporate Team Challenge," sure to encourage teamwork and a fun atmosphere among co-workers. Four-mile run prizes will be awarded to overall male and female winners, as well as to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Festivities include DJ entertainment, prizes, kids' activities, and post-race refreshments. Custom technical t-shirts will be provided to participants while supplies last.

SaxBST is absorbing all expenses associated with the 4 Miler at Garret Mountain in order to donate 100 percent of the money raised by sponsors to the Child Life Department of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. The department is an intergral component of the hospital that helps to relieve the stress and anxiety of pediatric patients during hospitalizations, ambulatory procedures and medication treatments.
