Skilled Nursing Specialty Initiative Responds to Regional Demand
PHILADELPHIA (Feb. 16, 2023) – University City Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in downtown Philadelphia has established a new Pulmonary Rehabilitation program to serve regional demand for this specialty clinical niche. Located at 3609 Chestnut St., on the same block as Penn Medicine, the center offers short-term rehabilitation and long-term care services.
Under the direction of Michael Korman, MD, FACP, FCCP, University City’s pulmonary rehab offering aims to reduce pulmonary symptoms, decrease disability, increase participation in physical and social activities, and promote independence and quality of life. It caters to the individual who has subacute rehab and medical needs related to an acute exacerbation or new onset of pulmonary disease. Pulmonary patients benefit from consults with Dr. Korman and University City’s full-time staff respiratory therapist. The initiative also includes 24/7 access to lab and radiology services, with a range of therapy services available seven days per week.
Dr. Korman is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary and critical care. He maintains a practice at the Mercy Philadelphia Hospital and the Mercy Wellness Center in Darby.
University City establishes its specialty programming partnerships with Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “University City’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation program aims to help address healthcare needs in the Philadelphia area,” said Marquis’ Danielle Koons, senior regional director of market development. “Dr. Korman and the center’s talented clinical team are working collaboratively to foster the best possible outcomes for pulmonary patients.”
Formerly Restore Health at University City, University City Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center is recently rebranded. A multi-million-dollar capital improvement program is underway at the 124-bed center, including enhanced specialty programming development and extensive physical renovations. As a service to the community, University City has established a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest; it can be found at universitycityrehabhc.com.
Brick, N.J-based Marquis Health Consulting Services provides administrative and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities and senior housing communities along the Eastern Seaboard. The organization’s operational guidance enables its client facilities to overachieve their quality and customer service goals by embracing a progressive, multi-specialty approach to healthcare.
