NEWARK/NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., June 7, 2013 – On Tuesday, June 25, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) will present its “Representing Victims of Disaster: Introduction to FEMA and Disaster-Related Insurance Issues” seminar for attorneys willing to assist victims of Superstorm Sandy. This educational event begins at 6 p.m. at the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education located at One Constitution Square in New Brunswick, N.J. The seminar is part of VLJ’s new Disaster Legal Response Program (DLRP), which was established to aid the thousands of N.J. residents still dealing with legal matters directly related to the once-in-a-century storm.

This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for CLE credit. Designed to teach attorneys the basics of FEMA and disaster-related insurance issues, this training program is free to attorneys who agree to volunteer with VLJ’s DLRP by either taking a case or volunteering with its free clinics. Speakers are Mark Friesz, Esq.; Meredith Murphy, Esq.; and Diego Rosado, Esq., all of whom are with Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP as well as Nicholas Insua, Esq. of McCarter & English.

Pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, please email Elizabeth Hampton at ehampton@vljnj.org or call 973-645-1951, ext. 120.

VLJ’s DLRP includes free legal clinics in Hudson, Monmouth and Ocean Counties; extended representation; and a statewide hotline – (855) 301-2525 – staffed by volunteer attorneys, VLJ staff, and law students. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation based in Newark, VLJ provides comprehensive legal services to economically-disadvantaged adults, children, and families in New Jersey to ensure fair and equal treatment within the legal system.
