Prism Recently Completed Redevelopment of Historic Thomas Edison Invention Factory Campus and Commerce Center
WEST ORANGE, N.J., May 2, 2019 – When Laura Farrington began contemplating a move, she had a clear vision of wanting a unique space to call home. Farrington was immediately drawn to both the modern design of The Residences at Edison Lofts building in Edison Village and its rich history as the former home of the Thomas Edison Invention Factory and Commerce Center. Farrington’s studio apartment is situated in the completely reimagined 100-year-old building, which houses 300 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences, including 21 penthouse homes. Edison Lofts take advantage of existing architectural features of the historic factory, incorporating 14- to 16-foot ceiling heights and eight- and 10-foot replica replacement windows to let in abundant natural light. All residences feature designer kitchens with stainless steel appliances and luxury bathrooms.
“The ceiling heights, large windows and layout make the space so bright and open; my friends comment that it doesn’t feel like a studio,” added Farrington.
Ease of Living
Farrington, who had previously been living in Plainfield, is enjoying the range of amenities and ease of living at Edison Village. “Taking care of a house can quickly turn in to a part-time job, taking up lots of time, effort and money,” said Farrington. “Here, everything is taken care of by the staff, who are all very pleasant and responsive. I have been so impressed by the concierge, property management, maintenance and leasing agents.”
Since moving in, Farrington has been delighting in the state-of-the-art fitness center and indoor heated pool. “I am not normally a ‘gym rat,’ although I have gone to the fitness center every day,” said Farrington. “The gym is just steps away – literally a 45-second walk! I also started swimming laps at the pool and using the sauna. Living here is having a huge positive impact on my lifestyle.”
Amenities at Edison Village also include theatre and media screening rooms, personal and bike storage, and a dog-washing station as well as a self-serve, “man-less” café, in which residents pay for items with a key fob.
The property’s 12,000-square-foot rooftop indoor/outdoor Sky Lounge boasts 360-degree unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline and includes a private dining room with catering kitchen. The outdoor deck offers a mix of seating, firepit and barbeque grills. “My neighbors and I are planning get-togethers this spring,” added Farrington.
For Farrington, the location was a draw from a commuting standpoint – just five or so miles – and in terms of proximity to other vibrant towns, such as Montclair and Bloomfield. “West Orange, Montclair and Bloomfield have lots to offer in terms of restaurants and museums,” noted Farrington. “I also go in to New York City at least once a week. It’s so convenient from here, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice of Edison Village as my new home.”
Edison Village sits on 21 acres along Main Street in West Orange, in the heart of the township’s Downtown Redevelopment Area. Phase I has involved the total reconstruction of the historic factory complex as well as the development of 18,400 square feet of retail, a 630-space parking structure, and The Mews at Edison Lofts, a boutique collection of 34 one- and two-bedroom homes with limited availability remaining.
