Dr. Reyaz Haque

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 15, 2024) Westgate Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Baltimore is partnering with the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) in a first-of-its-kind cardiac initiative. The 120-bed skilled nursing facility will provide in-facility rehabilitation services for the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) Main and Midtown campuses.

UMMS’ Reyaz U. Haque, MD, FACC, FSCAI, and Anuj Gupta, MD, FACC, FSCAI, will oversee the new program in collaboration with Athol Morgan, MD, who is the co-director of Westgate Hills’ Cardiopulmonary Care Program.

“Westgate Hills is honored to be chosen by UMMS as the only area skilled nursing facility to participate in this unique initiative,” said Nikki Gachot, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “This partnership builds on Westgate Hills’ commitment to help meet the healthcare needs of the Baltimore area community.”

As part of its comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Care Program, Westgate Hills’ cardiac services aim to promote independence and quality of life through reducing symptoms and decreasing disability in heart patients while increasing their participation in physical and social activities. Cardiac patients benefit from certified nurses on staff, seven days per week therapy services as prescribed, 24/7 access to lab and radiology services, and a range of additional services and therapies.

UMMS is a private, university-based regional health system focused on serving the health care needs of Maryland. “We are pleased to partner with Westgate Hills and work closely with Dr. Morgan and the facility’s talented team,” said Dr. Haque. “This new initiative will support us in enhancing recovery and reducing readmissions for our cardiac population within our UMMC Main and Midtown campuses.”

Dr. Haque, who specializes as an interventional cardiologist, serves as the chief of cardiology and chief of medical staff at UMMC Midtown. Additionally, Dr. Haque is an assistant professor of medicine at UMD’s School of Medicine.
