HACKENSACK, N.J. – April 12, 2013 – On Thursday, April 25, the YWCA Bergen County and Panico Salon & Spa will be partnering to raise awareness of sexual assault services and prevention by hosting a Denim Day fundraising event. The salon will be collecting donations at all three of its New Jersey locations: 144 East Ridgewood Ave. in Ridgewood, 393 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell and 763 Bloomfield Ave. in West Caldwell. This marks the sixth year Panico Salon & Spa will be supporting Denim Day.

The fundraising event, held in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, takes place from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and this year will include an exciting day of complimentary food, denim displays and other informational materials. Monies raised will be used to support healingSPACE at the YWCA Bergen County, the only sexual violence resource center of its kind in the county, and a safe and welcoming place for survivors of sexual assault/abuse, their families and friends.

Denim Day is an annual movement designed to empower and support survivors of sexual violence. Wearing jeans on Denim Day has become an international symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. Community members can show their support by wearing jeans to work or while out in the community. In addition to Denim Day, the YWCA Bergen County will be raising awareness of sexual violence with various events and forums throughout the month: http://www.ywcabergencounty.org/ind-events/calendar/.
